Chihuahuas Set Team Hits Record in 10-6 Win Sunday

The El Paso Chihuahuas pounded a team record 23 hits in their 10-6 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Sunday afternoon. The previous high was 22, set on June 7, 2015 at Las Vegas.

El Paso scored in each of the first four innings to go ahead 10-0. Fresno brought in four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it interesting, but neither team scored the rest of the way. El Paso had at least one hit in eight of the nine innings Sunday.

One night after finishing a triple shy of a cycle, Alex Dickerson tripled in his first at bat and went 3-for-4 with two intentional walks, falling a home run shy of a cycle Sunday. Rocky Gale and Nick Noonan collected four hits each for El Paso. Fresno starter Cesar Valdez pitched five innings and allowed 18 hits, setting a new Grizzlies’ team record.

The Chihuahuas entered Sunday with the most hits in professional baseball (600) before adding 23 more in the win. Michael Dimock, Eric Yardley and Daniel Moskos tossed scoreless outings to close the game for El Paso.
