Voters oust two incumbent Dona Ana County commissioners

Two incumbent Dona Ana County commissioners lost their seats Tuesday.

In District 2, incumbent David Garcia lost to Ramon Gonzalez in the Democratic primary. No Republican will run against Garcia in the Fall.

With 95% of precincts reporting, Gonzalez received 1,084 votes (60%) of the vote to Garcia’s 730 votes (40%).

In the District 4 Democratic primary, County Commissioner Wayne Hancock lost to Isabela Solis.

Solis received 1,698 (54%) vote. Hancock received 1,126 votes (36%).

On the Republican side, William Jarod Webb defeated Roman Jimenez. Webb received 1,236 votes (68%). Jimenez received 591 (32%) votes.

Current Dona Ana County Commissioner Leticia Duarte-Benavidez did not seek relection in District 5.

Bill Strandridge, John Vasquez and Dickie Apodaca were running in the Democratic primary. Vasquez received 1,515 votes (43%). Apodaca received 1,090 votes (34%). Strandridge received 832 votes (24%).

On the Republican side, Kim Clayton Hakes defeated Craig Wayne Buckingham. Hakes received 1,077 votes (58%). Buckingham received 772 votes (42%).
