Las Cruces woman, friend facing chargers for allegedly printing counterfeit money

Police arrested a woman suspected of passing counterfeit money at Mesilla Valley Mall in Las Cruces on Tuesday.

Kristina Dasing, 38, was booked into Dona County Detention Center. Police charged her with three counts of forgery.

Detectives learned Dasing tried to purchase items from a variety of stores in the mall using fake money was allegedly printed by her friend, 35-year-old Andrew Barnett.

Police arrested Barnett May 24th and charged him with 16 counts of forgery. Detectives believe he was printing counterfeit currency in all denominations in his bedroom at the home he shares with his mother

Dasing has been released on bond and is awaiting trial.

Police are encouraging cashiers and others who accept paper currency to be aware and inspect all of the cash given to them.
