Pan Am SCCA holds autocross at Cohen Stadium

around el paso for years now. but you may not have heard about the pan american region sports car club of america. abc-7’s andrew j. polk took a ride, and has this story you’ll see only on abc-7. :39 :59 1:22 nats – car revving “well, w have an auto cross. it’s a driving skill improvement test, or course. a lot of noise in the background.” that’s t be expected when you get dozens of people and performance cars together, this time in the cohen stadium back parking lot… trying to get the best time on a challenging twisty- turny course. our camera was able to ride along for the “parade lap” – a slower speed run through the course to give drivers a chance to study the layout. “i’m paying attention to how tight the corners are, so that i can know how fast to enter.” “each driver does the course times, running the best time so they can compete and win overall. pretty much any car can do this race as long as they’re not top heavy, and there are systems in place so no matter what you are driving, you have a chance.” “each car gets a time, and the national organization has a set of handicaps, multiplier numbers, so that you could race a volkswagen against a corvette against a full racecar.” it’s a lot of effor – preparation, safety and more – to put into a course that takes just over a minute to complete. i couldn’t resist getting a ride with russell allen for full-speed run – took about 75 seconds. i’m pretty sure i rembered to breathe during that. and for the onlookers and particpants like ryan huh, that’s what it’s all about. “the adrenaline. it’s fun.” ” dad’s going to get to race. that’s going to be fun.” andrew j. polk, abc-7. another pan-am s-c- c-a will be held tomorrow morning at cohen stadium as well. for more info on that and the organization, you can click on this story on k-v-i-a dot com. c-a will be held tomorrow morning at cohen stadium as well. for more info on that and the organization, you can click on this story on k-v-i-a dot com.
