Paisano closed for 8 months

A busy stretch of Paisano is being shut down until late winter to allow crews to work faster on the border west expressway, but Paisano commuters aren’t happy about it. It’s all part of the border west expressway project meant to develop an alternative to I-10. Residents we spoke with didn’t like the idea of all the traffic it would add to I-10 and Mesa for those eight months.

“I don’t know what Hell looks like but I imagine it’s going to be something like it.” said Doia Luevanos who regularly used Paisano.

According to the project’s website the work would usually take a year and a half
and by shutting down the entire section, from Executive to Sunland Park, they hope to speed things up. Business access is still allowed to car dealerships on Paisano, but access is cut off right next to them. Everyone going east will have to use I-10, those going west will be forced to use Mesa. Although the residents we spoke weren’t fans of the closure, they say they hope the sacrifice is worth it.

“I think it’s going to be worth it. It was really useful before so it should be better now that they fix it,” Luevanos said.
