Woman blamed for deadly crash allegedly admitted to smoking pot, drinking the night of the crash

The woman blamed for a deadly crash allegedly told police she smoked marijuana and drank several shots and beers the night of the crash, according to a complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7.

Stephanie Marie Bueno, 25, of the 400 block of Benton in Horizon City, is charged with one count of Intoxication Manslaughter and one count of Intoxication Assault.

During a police interview, Bueno allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana to “calm her anxiety,” then later drinking five shots and two beers. Later that night, at the scene of the crash, Bueno allegedly told police officers arriving at the scene she knew she “was not good to drive.”

Bueno told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend, Kenneth Duran, at an East El Paso bar. After they left the bar, Bueno was allegedly driving in between 65 and 70 miles per hour on the way home. She told police her passengers were asking her to slow down.

The court document states Bueno hit a curb and rolled her vehicle on the 1300 block of Zaragoza early Saturday morning. Bueno, Duran and a passenger, Jessica Olvera, were thrown out of the car.

Olvera, of the 14300 block of Narciso in Horizon City, died. Duran injured his spine and sustained rib fractures, the document states.

Bueno was hospitalized after the crash. Police arrested the woman after she was released.

When asked to rate her level of intoxication before she got behind the wheel, with “0” being sober and “10” being very drunk, Bueno allegedly told police she was at about a “7 or an 8.”
