vote to award dantex construction company a ten point six million dollar bid to build a sun metro transit center and parking garage in north east el paso. abc-7’s jamie warren joins us live with the details, jamie: the terminal and parking garage are part of a larger development project in the north east. many have been wondering, why is it all taking so long? city rep carl robinson says tuesday’s vote could finally get things rolling: 0-8 “i rember boomerang movies. i was a kid. that was like the biggest thing to go to at the mall” lik many in northeast el paso, angie saunders misses the hustle and bustle of northpark mall. after the previous owner left the mall vacant, it was an eye sore to many. the city tore it down after taking ownership of the property in 2010. “that was really sad just to see it let go” “behind this fence there’s been nothing but dirt for years. residents have been waiting for something to be built here” “i’ll be glad wh something is there. i’m tired of the dirt.” since aquiring the land six years ago, the city looked for ways to revitilize the 31-acre lot. it was in 2013 when the city issued a contract with hunt communities to build restaurants, shops, offices, apartments and a park. but in order to being work on any of that, robinson says construction must begin on the first phase of the entire project–the sun metro bus terminal and parking garage. that’s why city rep carl robinson says tuesday’s vote could get the ball rolling. if approved, it would allow for dantex construction company to begin work on the ten point six million dollar transit center which will one day anchor the lot. but until crews break ground… residents remain yet skeptical. “much need” “i’ll believe it when i see it” “i just hope if they do it it won’t take three years to build and that it brings more people over here to the northeast side” robinson says depending on tuesday’s vote, he expects construction to start in the next 30 days. jamie, thank you. also this week– christmas lights making a comeback
