Drivers not completely informed about TxDOT closures

on the west side these days with all of the construction. but it’s even harder when you’re not informed about all of the closures. abc- 7’s darren hunt caught txdot in a mistake today … and he is live in west el paso with the details … darren. rick and estela, txdot failed to tell us or anyone else that they were closing the executive center exit ramp to west bound drivers for three hours this morning. they later apoligized for the mistake. “do you use that executiv exit?” “i use it exclusively especially now with all the construction.” but no one was using the west bound executive exit between 9 a-m and noon on wednesday … and that’s because it was closed, with no advanced warning to the media or drivers. “i think there should have been more of a public notice, a media notice to that.” “what about those electroni signs? they don’t even give you a heads up … nothing.” “the only warning you get tha the ramp is closed is this sign about a hundred yards before the exit.” a txdo spokesperson admitted to abc-7 they got the information wrong: “we have weekly meetings with the contractor to let us know what’s going to be closed. the ‘east’ bound ramp was closed, but they didn’t tell us they were also going to close the ‘west’ bound ramp.” the mistake made for a dangerous situation and left drivers going all the way to the sunland park exit to turn around. “i think they really need to ge their facts straight before they post anything.” w also asked txdot about this contractor truck suddenly stopping in the middle of traffic on doniphan this week without warning. a viewer sent us these pictures. txdot told us there should have been another vehicle with lights following the truck to warn drivers. “they need better channels of communication with the drivers.” “its a cluster, i mean it wrong, txdot has got to do something, get us more advanced information … its tough living on the west side with the traffic, its tough, there’s no doubt about it.” txdot told me this is the first mistake they have made with notifications about this massive go-10 project. promising me it would not happen again. estela.. big news tonight for the small community of vinton, texas, the highly anticipated water and sewer systems are finally
