El Paso Water crews working to fix broken water pipe, residents report horrible smell

A broken pipe is spilling wastewater on the 3900 block of Doniphan in the Upper Valley.

El Paso Water spokesman Luis Lopez told ABC-7 they are aware of the situation and crews are working to fix it. Lopez said a wastewater line ruptured at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Viewers and an ABC-7 photojournalist at the scene report a horrible smell. Workers at the site told ABC-7 they are throwing chlorine at the water “to help with the smell.”

Wastewater spilled onto Sunland Park near Doniphan. Avoid the area.
