annual save-a-life telethon. with your help we were able to raise 129 thousand 2 hundred 26 dollars… and we’re still counting the online donations. but running the show is a huge undertaking. we have a full crew running the telethon and the days news casts. we also have a lot of dedicated volunteers doing different jobs abc- 7’s jerry najera has a look behind the scenes: in the control room directors –technical directors –producers and audio operators take on a 7 hour long show. besides sifting through endless video –editors experienced a power bump and still manged to get all the video on air. camera men –floor directors and sleepy dogs take over the set volunteers fill the newsroom taking on calls some of them veterans of the telethon “this is going to be my fourth year doing this” “this is my third year “about 15 years” all o them do it for one reason and one reason only: “i do it because i love and enjoy helping animals and help them get homes” “i lo animals and i love being able to give back to the community” “love of animals love animals” more than 80 volunteers not only get to help the animals but they form a bond “just working wit others” “y get to show and see other people how they interact and what they want to do for each other” “i think i just brings people together so they can just help as one to make a better world” but even though the telethon is over … you can still donate right now at kvia dot com. rember any donation big or small makes a difference. also on our website, you can see slide shows of evertything that went on throughout yesterday’s telethon. we also have the pet of the day photo gallery where some furry friends are still looking for that forever home. if you haven’t taken advantage of the tax free savings you still have one more day. tax free weekend is underway both in texas and new mexico. you can expect the malls, outlet malls and just about every store with back to school supplies to be packed throughout today. here in texas – shoes, clothes, backpacks and school supplies will not be taxed. but – each individual item must cost less than 100 dollars. it’s the same in new mexico – however – in addition to those deals…they arent taxing on computers that cost up to 1-thousand dollars and computer accessories up to 500 dollars. if you’re a little confused on the rules a full list of the rules can be found at kvia dot com. while many borderland residents spent their saturday shopping… others were left to shovel water and mudd away from their home. el paso water utilites got the call of the break aroun 2 -30 yesterday afternoon. water was flooding the streets near the intersection of ingersoll way and albama street. the utility company saying that strong force of water came from a 24-inch break. fortunatley, we are told no customers were affected. …stormtrack weather now! let’s get your first forecast with stormtrack meteorologist stephen decatur. monsoon moisture remains parked over much of the area and should continue to result in isolated to scattered afternoon and evening storms across portions of the region into early next week. there will likely be a general decrease in overall coverage of storms the next few days before additional moisture moves in by the middle of next week. expect greater coverage of storms later next week along with an increased risk of some flooding as remnants of earl are expected to affect the area. drivers on the westside listen up. we have a traffic alert you need to be aware about for next week. tex dot says the complete closure of i-10 is aware about for next week. tex dot says the complete closure of i-10 is scheduled for next sunday from 3 a-m to monday morning at 5. both the east and west bound lanees between the sunland park overpass and the executive center overpass will be closed. the detours around that closure will either be mesa or taking transmountain to from east to west. speaking of traffic lets take a live look outside .. police say a fight at a lounge in el paso’s police say a fight at a lounge in el paso’s lower valley is was led up to friday night’s stabbing. police blocked off the entire parking lot of joseph’s lounge on the 82- hundred block of north loop. police cars – sat out front as investigators worked the scene. the stabbing happened just after 8 o clock friday night. the victim’s injuries are not life threatening… but still no word on if any arrests have been made. a las cruces woman now faces several charges after police say she shot her boyfriend after he told her to turn off her phone. from our new mexico mobile newsroom. las cruces police say 45-year-old april nastasi – shot her boyfriend back on june 19. she was indicted this past friday. the victim told detectives – he told nastasi to turn off her phone so they could sleep – and that’s when he said she pulled out a gun and shot him in the arm. nastasi drove the victim to the hospital – after police say she refused to let him call 911. she is now charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. among several other charges. and also out of new mexico… a woman is charged with one count of child abuse after police say she was driving drunk with 3 children in the car. police say 36-year- old angelica lozano – showed multiple signs of being intoxicated back in may at the santa teresa port of entry. friday she was indicted by a grand jury. reports say lozano blew a point – 2 -1 – which is more than twice the legal limit. on top of the child abuse charge lozano also faces one count of aggravated driviing while under the influence. “it is very moving and very touching – i am sure emotion will grow here because that is going to bring back a lot of the action that we went through and some of it what we tried to push back – but it will get back and be emotional” the el paso museum of history has a new exhibit– and it serves for one purpose. to honor vietnam veterans. one group says when el paso’s vietnam veterns returned home following their tours – some did not receive the welcome they deserved. to try and make things right – the welcome home el paso vietnam veterans committee partnered with the el paso museum of history to honor the men and women who served during that era. the museum will host an exhibit of vietnam memorabilia… and the digital wall will have stories of several veteran’s perspectives. the exhibit is free and will be open to the public through november 11th. don’t forget to pick up your copy of the el paso inc. this week, only in el paso inc.: how $110 million in private investment is changing downtown el paso – and there’s more on the way. we’ve got the complete list of projects. why the first-place chihuahuas say things are only going to get even better – for the team and ballpark attendance. and what are chances are you’ll be paying more to the city in property taxes next year? el paso inc. is online at elpasoinc.com, and available for home and business delivery. call 534- 4422 to subscribe. it’s a unique race like nowhere else around the world!
