a very good morning el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m stephanie valle. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. a live look at stormtrack doppler radar is showing… currently around our region… here’s your day planner for today… expect skies, winds and temperatures in the by 8 am, by noon and for your drive home around 5 pm. we’ll talk more about what to expect for the rest of this work week and the weekend ahead coming up in your full forecast. abc-seven with breaking news this morning all delta airlines flights world-wide — are grounded. the company confirmed the information on twitter. delta only saying it is experiencing unspecified system issues. no word on when delta flights will resume. if you’re flying today — check out our travel section on kvia.com for the very latest on flight information. no departing flights from el paso international are being affected at this point– but two arriving flights from atlanta are delayed so far. the 10-45 flight is delayed by about 25 minutes. and the arriving flight at 2- 51 is delayed by more than an hour and a half. a man is critically injured after a motorcycle crash in west el paso. the crash happened around 7 o’clock last nighton the 56- hundred block of mesa.. police shut down all southbound lanes on mesa from mesa hills to festival. our crews were there – minutes after the crash. police say the crash – sent a man and woman to the hospital. you can see someone being treated by first- responders – and then placed in the ambulance. police say the man driving the motorcycle has life-threatening injuries — but that the woman’s injuries are not life- threatening. / happening today– the trial for a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend. el paso police say 21-year-old adrian garcia — strangled 15-year-old alejandra arango in 2013. on friday – the jury heard testimony from the boyfriend of arango’s mother – efren guevara. in an attempt to discredit the witness — the defense brought up guevara’s criminal history – including his convictions of abuse towards women. the prosecution asked guevara point-blank — “did you kill alejandra arango on august 5, 2013?” guevar responded, saying, “no.” trial is set t resume this morning at 8:30. the search continues for whoever stabbed a man. investigators blocked of the parking lot of joseph’s lounge – on the 82-hundred block of north loop. the stabbing happened around 8 o’clock friday night. police say it happened after a fight broke out inside the lounge. the victim’s injuries were not life- threatening. a deadly explosion has rocked a hospital in northwestern pakistan. a state official says at least 53 people were killed when a blast ripped through an emergency ward. 30 others are injured. lawyers and reporters had been gathering at the hospital– where the body of a prominent activist was brought after he was shot and killed earlier monday. the son of a kansas state lawmaker died while riding the world’s tallest water slide. 10-year-old caleb thomas schwab was the son of state representative scott schwab. the boy died friday, while riding the ver-ruckt water slide in kansas city. the slide sends riders into a 17- story drop, at speeds of at least 50 miles-an-hour. police are still investigating what exactly went wrong during the ride. the schwab family said in a statement that caleb “brought abundant joy” t everyone who had ever met him. the schlitterbahn water park has been closed for the investigation. a 20-year-old man died after being shot in san francisco saturday night. according to family members, calvin riley was playing pokemon go with a group at an aquatic park when he was hit. this is video of the park in the daylight-sunday. a friend told police they noticed someone suspicious watching them from atop a hill …but it was too dark to see a face. when officers arrived, they found riley with a gunshot wound. he received first aid but later died. police are investigating. happening today– the start of a reconstruction project in an area popular for runners and walkers. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with the details … denise? the city’s capital improvement department will begin construction on robinson avenue. part of the new project includes upgrades to existing drainage– but that will also bring better hiking and biking trails. this means there will be some closures to accommodate workers in the area. the first phase of the project includes closing robinson avenue between piedmont drive and sierra crest drive. it inlcudes the closure of sidewealks too. phase two entails a full closure of robinson from sierra crest drive to canyon terrace drive. the project is borken down in four phases– i’ll have those closures coming up in our next half hour. when complete– the area will also see new landscaping, irrigation, more lighting and ada compliant sidewalks and curbs the recosntruction of robinson avenue will cost more than two-million dollars. donald trump is trying to claw back into the presidential race this morning. new polls show him losing ground to hillary clinton after a series of damaging headlines. now he’s taking a more refined approach as his opponent gears up with a key address. abc’s maggie rulli is in washington with more: donald trump refocuses today with a policy speech at the detroit economic club that he says will help americans. he’s also endorsing speaker paul ryan and john mccain for re- election?
