Sen. Ted Cruz tours Fort Bliss, calls it ‘crucial’ to nation’s safety
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz spent part of the day Tuesday touring Fort Bliss and meeting with troops.
The Texas senator tweeted a series of pictures on Tuesday afternoon, including a group picture with the 1-37 AR Bandits.
“El Paso’s #FortBliss is a crucial base for those who serve on the front lines to keep our nation safe & secure,” Cruz tweeted.
According to Ft. Bliss, the senator met with Ft. Bliss Commander Maj. Gen Pat White and Col. Charles Lombardo, the commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team with the 1st Armored Division, among others.
Ft. Bliss photos show Sen. Cruz clad in a military jumpsuit and still wearing cowboy boots as he talks to soldiers. He then climbed into an Abrams tank and fired it at the range near Orogrande, N.M.
“Fort Bliss is a permanent fixture of both our nation’s military heritage and the Lone Star State’s economy, supporting more than 35,000 soldiers and contributing $24 billion to the Texas economy in 2015 alone,” said Cruz in a statement. “It has been a pleasure to hear from those leading the operations at Fort Bliss, and I am committed to representing them and defending their interests in Washington,” he said.
