Now hiring: LCPS is looking for school-bus drivers
Lisa Garcia buckled up, turned the key and drove a school bus for the very first time Thursday.
Currently a bus attendant, Garcia attended the Las Cruces Public School District’s first ever bus-driver job fair. The district is looking for people who have what it takes to be a bus driver and is allowing applicants to take a bus for a spin.
Garcia said after her experience, she plans on pursuing further testing to become a driver.
“I got the feel of how it is behind the wheel.” Garcia said. “I really thought it was going to be a rough drive but it’s not. It’s really smoother than what I thought it was going to be.”
The test drives continue from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Field of Dreams Stadium at 2501 Tashiro Road.
The district currently contracts its employees and buses with STS-NM.
