Woman came face-to-face with alleged cop-killer
only person shot friday afternoon. investigators say nelson and haynes carjacked a man at this rest stop by rincon and shot him in the hip. that man has been identified as angel flores. the suspects allegedly demanded flores give up his keys and told him to get in the car. flores gave them the keys, but did not get in the car. that’s when he was allegedly shot. flores was taken to u-m-c in el paso. no word on his condition. new this morning– we hear from a las cruces woman who says she and her husband were caught in the middle of the manhunt for the suspects. and came face-to-face with one of them. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live … denise? socorro garcia and her husband were driving from hatch to las cruces as authorities tracked down the suspects involved in the shooting death of officer jose chavez. terrifying moments she says she’s trying to forget. garcia spoke with our new mexico mobile newsroom yesterday as she piad her respects to officer chavez during a processsion that drew hundreds las crucens. on friday afternoon– on their way to cruces– she says they weren’t allowed onto i-25 so they took a back road. before they knew it— they were just feet away from jesse hanes: “he already had the flat tires, he was pushing the car driving it and came towards, telling us to stop, and pointing a gun to us” they immediately reversed their car and drove to safety– saying they blocked traffic for other drivers so they wouldn’t end up in the same situation. happening today– the trial continues for a former soldier accused
