how to prepare for your child’s future without breaking the bank or affecting your financial stability. a local financial adviser says parents should be realistic. most of them want their children standing on a podium with a medal someday– but in most cases that won’t happen. t-d ameritrade surveyed a- thousansd-and one parents of competitive athletes. most of them said they spend a hundred to 5- hundred dollars per month per child. nearly 20-percent are spending a thousand dollars per month. out of the one- thousand parents surveyed– more than half– 57- percent say they don’t have a long term financial plan. that can lead to parents clearing out their savings or 401k. mark goldstein of safe money alliance in las cruces says athletes like swimmers spend hours practing. and parents spend 10-12 hours per week at practice too. he says take that time to set financial goals and parents need a coach of their own: “somebody that understand social security how to take it, different strategies, a retirement income specialist, somebody that know how to grow your money and keep it safe, an expert in retirement planning” coming up in our next half our– a look at one mother whose young daughter is just getting started in gymnastics– but who is already seeing the sacrifices it takes. the trial continues today for a former sheriff’s deputy accused of driving drunk — hitting a man — and driving off. the blood alcohol content for raymundo carranza was the focus of testimony yesterday. prosecutors say carraza struck 26- year-old richard lopez — who was changing a tire on the side of the road. it happened on spur 601 four years ago. police had documented that carranza had a blood alcohol content of point-106. a sheriff’s deputy testified that the b- a-c was likely much higher at the time of the crash. but that the victim was reportedly drunk as well.. new video this morning shows a young boy rescued from the rubble in the aftermath of a devastating air strike overnight. we want to warn you that some of the footage you are about to see is graphic. this is moments after that attack in the northern city of aleppo. the video, released by syrian opposition activists, shows a boy being taken to an ambulance covered in dust and blood. the image is being shared across social media this morning–showing the devastation inflicted on the northern city. the 5-year-old was treated for head wounds and is expected to be okay. / 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… drier air remains in place across the borderland. this means rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to be quite limited with most areas staying dry with some schools in the borderland are heading back to class next week — and one charity is looking to help students get all the supplies they need. how you can help. / plus— some olympic stars are being forced to stay behind in rio for an investigation–we have the in-depth from brazil. and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
