ABC NEWS: Former Bliss soldier found guilty of murdering ex-girlfriend’s mother
A former Fort Bliss soldier and native El Pasoan accused in the killing of his then-14-year-old girlfriend’s mother has been found guilty of first degree murder.
ABC News reports it took a Pennsylvania jury about four hours Friday to convict Army Spc. Caleb Barnes. He will be sentenced to life in prison on Sept. 19. First degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence.
Barnes was accused of killing Cheryl Silvonek in March 2015 in Pennsylvania, because she disapproved of his relationship with her daughter. Her now-15-year-old daughter, Jamie, pleaded guilty and is serving 35 years to life in prison.
