breaking overnight— one person is seriously hurt after being stabbed. details from our round the clock news team. / police are also investigating the death of a little girl in northeast el paso. and happening today– the man accused of killing a hatch police officer during a traffic stop–will make his first appearance in court. a very good morning el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m stephanie valle. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. a live look at stormtrack doppler radar is showing… currently around of northeast el paso. el paso police are investigating a stabbing that happened just after 2 a.m. – on the 94- hundred block of mccombs. this is video of the scene from our round the clock crew. emergency dispatchers say one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. abc-7 is working to get more information on what happened. look for updates on kvia,com. / el paso police are also investigating the death of a baby girl. abc-7 is working to confirm how the one-year-old died. police say it happened at a home on the 83-hundred blocki of mercury street near u-s 54. a spokesperson for the fire department tells abc-7 the baby girl was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries yesterday evening. she later died. the crimes against persons unit is helping with the investigation. it has been a week since hatch police officer jose chavez was shot and killed during a traffic stop. happening today– the suspect- jesse hanes – is expected in court. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with more … denise? the dona ana county sheriff’s office says jesse hanes pulled the trigger and shot officer jose chavez who later died in an el paso hospital. the 38-year-old will appear before a judge at 8-30 this morning. he was at university medical center– here in el paso all week being treated for a gunshot wound. investigators say after shooting officer chavez and speeding off… hanes shot himself in the groin. abc-seven confirmed hanes was released wednesday night and is now in federal custody. hanes is charged with first degree murder, willful and deliberate. hanes is also facing federal carjacking and firearm charges. if convicted in new mexico… he faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole. hanes’ case is fueling some lawmakers including new mexico governor susana martinez to push for re-instating the death penalty. thanks denise… firefighters have been making some progress in battling a huge wildfire 60 miles east of los angeles. the fire has burned 56 square miles but is now 22 percent contained. meanwhile, a new fire broke out in rural santa barbara county, quickly surging to about 500 acres and prompting the evacuation of two campgrounds. over in the south– after a tour of flood-ravaged louisiana, the nation’s homeland security secretary, jeh johnson, is pledging the government will be there as long as it takes to help the community recover. president obama has been briefed daily of the situation while on vacation. johnson says more than 9- hundred emergency management personnel are working on the ground while hundreds more are expected. more than 40-thousand homes are damaged, more than 30-thousand people have been rescued and 13 people have died. earlier this week… we reported that an el paso man was diagnosed with zika after travelling to florida. now… more cases of the virus are being reported in that state. a miami city official confirms two more cases have been linked to miami beach. that brings the total number of cases in the city to 35. florida health officials were considering making miami beach a zika transmission zone. so far, they have not. many worry that would be a huge blow to the 24- billion-dollar-a-ye ar tourism industry there. active transmissions are still only in the wynwood, florida area. the united states olympic committee is apologizing for the “distractin ordeal” involving four olympi swimmers. brazilian police have said ryan lochte and three of his teammates were not robbed, and instead vandalized a gas station bathroom. lochte had said earlier this week they were held up at gunpoint after a night of partying. we have the latest in the investigation including surveillance video from the night in question. that’s all coming up in just a bit right here on gmep. sheriff’s deputies have identified the man killed in a fiery crash last month. it happened at i-10 west near horizon the morning of july 25th — shutting down 1-10 for hours. they say 35-year-old cecilio portillo is the man who was killed in the crash. a txdot employee at the scene told us the driver of the semi truck rear- ended a txdot vehicle. the sheriff’s office has not confirmed if portillo was driving the semi. the crash is still under investigation. we’re getting our first look at the man found dead inside a car in horizon city tuesday afternoon. the el paso sheriff’s office identifies him as 41-year-old christopher mcvaney from glenville, west virginia. he was found unresponsive on the 13-hundred block of horizon boulevard. investigators were able to tell us mcvaney was traveling from west virginia. we’re trying to find out where he was headed. the sheriff’s office says his death does not look suspicious. new this morning– doctors at orlando regional medical center say there’s been slight improvement in the condition of the last remaing hospitalized “pulse” survivo the patient has been in critical condition since the mass shooting at the orlando nightclub on june 12th. according to the orlando sentinel, the patient’s condition was upgraded on tuesday to “guarded.” n other information was given — and we do not know the patient’s identity. 49 people were killed in the pulse nightclub attack and more than 50 others were injured. 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… …abc-7 traffic track … now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… keep it here for more headlines here on gmep— parents, teachers and students came who should lead irvin high school?
