grocery chain. but a recent story on that grocery chain upset one viewer. rick cabrera shares his comments in abc-7 listens. it’s not unique for us to report on a company opening shop in el paso. and there’s one coming to the westside that has a lot of people excited. whole foods market will open near coronado high in mid-october. late last month … the company released it’s latest financials and it led to this report from stephanie valle. “the numbers released wednesday show profits declined 22% from a year ago, to $120 million and whole foods stock sank about 5% — is flat this year — and is still down about 16% from a year ago. this comes after the new york city’s department of consumer affairs accused whole foods in june 2015 — of “systematic overchargin for pre-packaged foods.” we also reported that whole foods apologized and said the overpricing was not intentional. martin saw our report then fired off this email. “i could no believe the way channel 7 was reporting about whole foods problem back east. “you made it sound like management did not care. was the store closed? where the employees fired? “this was disservice to your viewers and to a company that is investing lots of capital in our city, please follow up and stop shooting from the hip. martin … new york city’s department of consumer affairs wasn’t directing the accusation at a particular store … so no store was closed, nobody was fired and again whole foods apologized. martin also felt we should reach out to local whole foods management … but our story wasn’t focused on the local store but the company as a whole. those financial numbers for the entire company and are public record because whole foods is a publicly traded company. more importantly … while we are more than happy to share with our viewers the exciting news of a popular businesses coming to town … it’s not our job to promote or turn a blind eye when we the news is not glowing or positive. rick cabrera.
