Wiener dogs whisk away for a win

this morning it was wiener dogs who raced downtown. the annual wienerschnitzel wiener national – brought dozens of dogs together to see who was the fastest in the borderland abc-7’s julio-cesar chavez is live from our newsroom evan, josie, the crowd was impressive this morning as more than a hundred people showed up downtown for the annual wiener dog races many were there to race their dogs or cheer others on, others just showed up to see what was going on race starts 62 dogs dachshunds and weiner mixes, from dorkies to chiweenies ran across cleveland square park saturday morning in the qualifying rounds for the wienerschnitzel wiener nationals “i mean it’s a family affair, you can bring your kids, you can bring the whole family in. you’ve got wiener dogs that are super adorable” from tiny two-month-old puppies running around the park, to a 60-pound contender everyone having fun in a very serious competition “how big of a concern is doping at this level of competition? we do do random drug testing, we do want to keep the race fair and balanced.no actually it’s one of those things, it’s based on the breed of the dog, we do allow mixes” one of the eight finalists, hai ya, is a chihuahua weiner mix her owner jangling car keys to get her to run, a sound hai ya connects with going out “car rides, going somewhere, fun trip” the keys and her hobbies helping her land a spot in the finals “she likes to potty, and run, fetch. that’s about it” “although not everyone was able to make it, it doesn’t mean they’ll stop trying” “of course! next year she’l make it to the finals for sure” now, after the eight qualifying heats just one question remains unanswered “who will be crowned el paso’ fastest wiener” the winner will be decided tonight the finals are at 7:05 during the chihuahua’s game if you’d like to cheer on some dogs make sure you head out as soon as the newscast ends the prize is $500 evan, josie? hundreds of trashed tires were removed from
