Chihuahuas Win Second Straight Game
The El Paso Chihuahuas won their second straight game Sunday, defeating the Salt Lake Bees 2-1 at Southwest University Park. The victory moves El Paso’s magic number to 10 with 15 games remaining in the regular season.
Carlos Pimentel set a 2016 Chihuahuas’ single-game high by striking out nine Salt Lake batters. El Paso pitching has compiled 22 strikeouts in the first two games of the series. The Chihuahuas were held hitless until the sixth inning when Hunter Renfroe hit a single to left field, the second time in the last six games that Renfroe produced El Paso’s first hit of a game after the fifth inning.
Carlos Asuaje went 0-for-3 with a walk, ending his 10-game hitting streak. The Chihuahuas’ bullpen has not allowed any runs during Saturday and Sunday’s back-to-back wins, with Jason Jester, Buddy Baumann and Eric Yardley all tossing scoreless outings Sunday.
