Man threw ninja star at officer, stabbed another officer during SWAT standoff, police say

Police arrested an El Paso man and charged him with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after a SWAT standoff that began Friday night.

Officers assigned to the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center responded to a Family Fight call in the 10100 block of Buckwood at about 8:30 Friday evening. The initial responding units arrived and were able to make verbal contact with 27-year old Eliott Alcantar.

Police said Alcantar was confrontational and officers made repeated requests for him to exit the residence. Alcantar refused and allegedly threw a sharp metal object, described as a martial arts edged weapon, at a female officer attempting to speak with him.

The officer was able to avoid being struck by the “ninja star” and the SWAT Team was called in to assist. During the the ensuing standoff, Alcantar allegedly threatened officers with various types of knives.

Just after 3:00 a.m., Alcantar exited the residence with the intent to be taken into custody by SWAT officers, police said. As SWAT officers approached him, Alcantar allegedly armed himself with a large knife and stabbed a SWAT officer in the outer left calf area, police said.

Police said officers took the knife away from Alcantar before taking him into custody. The SWAT officer was treated for the stab wound at a local hospital and released.

Alcantar was booked into the El Paso County Jail and his bond was set at $100,000.
