Selena’s wax figure shocks her family members

Selena Quintanilla’s sister says she was shocked by the likeness of the wax figure honoring the slain Mexican singer, unveiled Tuesday at Madame Tussauds Hollywood.

The deceased singer’s family and former husband joined 300 fans for the unveiling of the figure, wearing the black, purple and studded costume Selena wore during a 1984 concert performance recorded for the album Selena Live!

“It left us all quiet in the room, kind of speechless a little bit, excited,” said Suzette Quintanilla. “We were checking her out from head to toe. She looks incredible.”

“The Queen of Tejano,” was killed by her fan club’s president, Yolanda Saldvar, on March 31, 1995. Her then-husband says 21 years after her death, her legacy continues to inspire new artists.

“She inspired a lot of people and it seems to move from one generation to the next so it’s constantly moving forward and thanks to the fans that help perpetuate her, her legacy, her memory, her music and those kinds of things forward – I think it’s just an amazing thing what they’ve done,” Chris Perez said.
