Watch ABC-7 Special Edition: Battle of I-10 Sunday

Immediately following the Texas-Notre Dame Colege Football matchup, KVIA presents a special edition of ABC-7 Sports that looks into the history of the 101 year-old rivalry between the UTEP Miners and NMSU Aggies. We talk to fans, players and coaches of teams past and present.

Join ABC-7 Sports Director Trevor Thompson and ABC-7 Sports Anchor Luke Lyddon immediately following the Texas vs Notre Dame on KVIA-TV ABC-7.

Former NMSU Aggie and NFL Pro Bowler Fredd Young, said this game always dictates the rest of the season for both teams.

“It all goes downhill or uphill from there,” Young said. “And a W is really really important, and last year the Miners came back and beat us. This year I think we are going to get over the hump and have a winning season.”

While Former Mayfield Trojan Kavika Johnson, said he knows what is at stake for the century old rivalry.

“The rivalry means a lot, and it’s a big game for both of us,” Johnson said. “It’s a big game for the community. So we’re going to go out there and give it our all. The fans are gonna be there. It’s going to be be loud, it’s gonna be fun and it’s gonna be exciting, so we’ve got to give it our all out there.”

The Battle of I-10 will kick off at 6 p.m. at the Sun Bowl, and ABC -7 will provide extensive coverage Saturday and Sunday night as well.
