Border officers seize load of cocaine, meth at Presidio port of entry

A drug-sniffing dog named Indi alerted border officers to a load of cocaine and meth Sunday at the the Presidio port of entry, Customs and Border Protection officials said.

Armando Chavira Flores, 24, was crossing into the U.S. from Mexico along with his girlfriend and her young child when the dog alerted the officers to the car doors. The CBP officers removed the interior door panels locating numerous bundles hidden in three of the doors. CBP officers seized 7.92 pounds of methamphetamine and 5.94 pounds of cocaine.

“In this case the smuggler was traveling with his girlfriend and her young child in attempt to blend in with legitimate border crossing traffic,” John Deputy, CBP Presidio Port Director, said in a news release. “CBP officers were not convinced that this was a routine entry and in the end a sizeable amount of contraband was stopped.”

Chavira Flores, who is from of Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, was turned over to HSI special agents to faces charges in connection with the failed smuggling attempt.

The 21-year-old woman and her 17-month old son were released.
