Las Cruces community holds Patriot Day Ceremony in honor of 9/11 attacks

The Las Cruces police and fire departments are hosting a Patriot Day Ceremony Sunday in remembrance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and the 421 first responders who died that day in the line of duty.

The ceremony begins at 5 p.m. at the new Plaza de Las Cruces, near the corner of Main Street and Griggs Avenue.

Randy Grunow, Safety and Surety director at White Sands Missile Range, will be the keynote speaker.

Local band Border Avenue will provide music and food vendors will be set up.

The ceremony will include the U.S. Honor Guard, bagpipes and drums and the 21 gun salute.

The public is welcome to attend. Seating is limited so attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
