Affordable Care Act affordable?

William Pillsbury, who recently became self employed and was required to switch to insurance under the Affordable Care Act, said he had to change doctors.

“None of our current doctors here in El Paso were on the plan so we had to look for new doctors,” Pillsbury said.

That was just the beginning of his headaches. “We were paying $847, and the new premiums are $1,492,” said Pillsbury, whose premiums increased 74%.

ABC-7 also spoke with Glenda Cardona, a Physician Assistant at Access Allergy, about the Affordable Care Act.

“From a provider’s perspective, it’s only getting worse,” Cardona said. “It really limits us for what we can do for them, and if they want to do it anyway, they have a huge out of pocket cost.”

“I just really think we need to fix a broken system,” Cardona added.
