Document: Elderly woman strangled with cell phone charger cord; son allegedly confesses to killing

Police officers checking on the welfare of an elderly woman found the woman dead with a white cell phone charger cord around her neck, a complaint affidavit states.

Police charged the woman’s 55-year old son, Rajeev Gupta, with Murder. Gupta was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $1-million bond.

Officers responded to a residence at 3659 block of Grand Bahamas Dr. Sunday morning. The death of Kapoori Devi, 92, appeared to be suspicious and the officers requested the assistance of detectives.

According to the court document, police interviewed medical personnel who responded to the scene. They allegedly said the victim’s son implicated himself as “the person responsible for the victim’s death.”

Once at police headquarters, Gupta allegedly told detectives he killed his mother because “they were suffering and not happy.”

Police said this is the 16th Murder of 2016 compared to 12 at this same time in 2015.
