Cathedral tops Centennial in boys basketball Tuesday night

EL PASO, Texas – Cathedral just won a state title in football, but don’t forget about their basketball team.

The Irish are off to a 3-0 start this season after defeating Centennial High School at home Tuesday night by a final of 57-44.

Cathedral was aided by Cole Urrea’s 21 points and Mike Kirkland’s 20 in the victory. Franz Reyes also came up big for the Irish with 10 points.

The Irish got off to a quick 6-0 start and led virtually the entire game.

Centennial’s Tennessee Owens paced the Hawks with 14 points of his own, but his team fell short in its season opener.

Cathedral doesn’t have much time to rest. They next play Canutillo on Thursday in round one of a local tournament.

Meanwhile, Centennial has one week to prepare for Socorro in what will be the first home game of the season for the Hawks on Nov. 22.
