City says people can recycle Thanksgiving oil, grease at City’s Citizen Collection Stations

The city’s Environmental Services Department (ESD) wants to remind residents this Thanksgiving to not pour oil down the drain or in the garbage. ESD is encouraging residents to recycle that oil and grease at any of the City Collection Stations (CCS) starting on Saturday. Dumping any amount of oil can harm wildlife and damage sewage systems if not properly disposed of. The CCS will be closed Thursday and Friday, but will be open Saturday during regular operating hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday at the following locations: 1034 Pendale (East) 121 Atlantic (West) 4501 Hondo Pass (Northeast) 2492 Harrison (Central) The CCS do not accept cooking oil from businesses or commercial customers. The Citizen Collection Stations also accept household trash, recyclables, bulky items, tires, used electronics and household hazardous waste.

For more information, call 311 or visit the ESD here.
