UTEP RB Aaron Jones wins second major award in as many days
EL PASO, Texas – It’s been a good week so far for UTEP running back Aaron Jones.
He has been named the Earl Campbell/Tyler Rose National Player of the Week after rushing for 301 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday against North Texas.
This award comes on the heels of Jones being named Conference USA’s co-offensive player of the week on Monday.
His 301 yards rushing capped off a season that saw Jones run for a UTEP-record 1,773 yards. That total is also the fifth-most in a single season in C-USA history. The Miners capitalized on his big day, ending the season with a 52-24 win over North Texas to finish the year with a 4-8 record.
Only three other players in the nation managed to record 300 or more yards rushing in a single game this season ( West Virginia’s Justin Crawford, Texas’ D’Onta Foreman, and Utah’s Joe Williams).
Jones, a junior, is eligible for this year’s NFL Draft, but stated after Saturday’s game that he was not ready to make a decision as to whether he would declare. He said he wants to discuss the matter further with his family UTEP head coach Sean Kugler.
