Police arrest man accused of shooting at passing motorists

Detectives with the police department’s gang unit arrested a man for allegedly shooting at the occupants of a car as they drove past his home.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, police officers responded to a shots fired call at the 10400 block of Rushing in Northeast El Paso.

Officers met with victims who reported they had been shot at as they were driving by the 10400 block of Nolan.

The vehicle was struck by bullets but none of the occupants were wounded, police said. Witnesses stated the suspect had shot at the vehicle without any provocation, police added.

Police said Manuel Salaiz, 38, of the 10400 block of Nolan, was identified as the shooter.

He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Police did not say what type of weapn Salaiz is accused of firing.

Salaiz’s bond has not been set and he has not been booked. His mugshot is not available at this time, police said.
