Cathedral swimming wins 31st straight state championship

Jack White strikes again.

Coach White led Cathedral to its 31st consecutive state swimming title on Saturday in San Antonio, as Cathedral edged Addison Trinity by just 98 points for the TAPPS Division One crown.

According to White, that’s the slimmest margin of victory for the Fighting Irish since they joined TAPPS in 2001.

Cathedral won the opening event of the meet, the 200 yard medley relay, in what was the first of six events won by the Irish on the day.

Connor White had a monster day, winning four total gold medals including the 500 yard freestyle, the 100 yard backstroke, and the 200 and 400 yard medley relays.

Teammate Luis Reynoso took silver in the 100 yard backstroke, as the Irish swept the top two spots in that race.

Emmanuel Escarcega also won gold in the 100 yard breast stroke as Cathedral claimed the top spot in half of the 12 races on the day.
