‘El Paso Days’ at the State Capital

The Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce is heading to Austin for the biannual “El Paso Days” trip.

Business, civic and education leaders will be attending to champion issues that affect our community, and reinforce the importance of our region to state officials.

District 29 Sen. Jose Rodriguez said, given the distance from El Paso to the capital, El Paso Days gives our community a more direct approach to have our voices heard.

“It always pays off to show up in person to bring attention to the issues that are important to any given community,” Rodriguez said.

Richard Dayoub, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater El Paso, said “96 people from El Paso” will be at events, advocating a legislative agenda on behalf of our community.

“Education, health care and transportation are our big three priorities,” Dayoub said.

The theme for the three days is “Celebrate The Border!” Something Sen. Rodriguez said he agrees we should do.

“I try to correct the misinformation and impressions that have been given including from some of our leadership about the border being unsafe,” said Rodriguez. “We all know El Paso is the safest city for its size in the country.”

Dayoub said Destination El Paso was a sponsor of the event, and provided canvas bags filled with El Paso mementos, which they plan to distribute to more than 350 Texas lawmakers.

El Paso Days lasts from February 21 to 23.
