EP Chihuahuas to wear 1987 throwback jerseys on “Diablos Days”

The El Paso Chihuahuas will wear retro El Paso Diablos uniforms this season during “Diablos Days” Wednesdays at Southwest University Park.

Individual game tickets go on sale on Saturday, March 4th at 10 a.m.

The team will wear the 1987 Diablos Throwback uniforms, which feature red pinstripes with yellow accents, red socks and red cap with that classic Diablos text.

“We are extremely proud and excited to bring this iconic name and look back under the control of Minor League Baseball and more importantly, El Paso, its true home,” said Chihuahuas Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor.

Diablos Days is meant to honor the “30th anniversary and the success of the late-80s’ teams,” the team said.

In 1986, the Diablos won the Texas League Pennant. In 1988, the team had a young prospect named Gary Sheffield, who went on to become a nine-time Major League Baseball All-Star. Sheffield hit 509 homeruns during his 22-season career in the majors.

In addition to the throwback uniforms, the Chihuahuas will resurrect some of the sights and sounds of the Dudley Dome.

Fans are encouraged to bring their handkerchiefs to wave “Bye Bye Baby” as the visiting pitcher gets taken out of the game, get their voices ready to shout “We Want A HIT!” and more. A complete new videoboard look with Diablos themes will complete the transformation of Diablos Days.

Individual game tickets to the El Paso Chihuahuas 2017 regular season will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, March 4th from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Durango Box Office at Southwest University Park.

The Chihuahuas Opening Day is Thursday, April 6th at 7:05 p.m. versus the Las Vegas 51s (New York Mets), the start of a five game home stand.
