Construction at North Main, Spitz and Solano expected to last 10 months

Las Crucens are dealing with traffic headaches in some parts of town as some projects begin to wrap up and others get started.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation has begun work to revamp the three crosses intersection of North Main, Spitz and Solano.

Traffic is down to one lane in both directions. Officials tell ABC-7 they hope to realign the intersection, add new sewer lines, lighting and signs.

Officials say it’s a busy area and crews will add middle turn lanes to ease some of that congestion.

Drivers say it’s needed, but it’s frustrating because they needed to find alternate routes.

“One way you can go one way and there’s still construction there and it just pikes up and cars and there’s a lot of road rage and people just don’t know hot to behave themselves too,” Kevin Morales said.

Nearby businesses say they’re already feeling the effects, they’ve noticed business is slower because customers are avoiding the area altogether.

“A lot of business are suffering and a year ago, when they first started working on main those businesses started suffering and now I guess it’s our turn and we have to suffer for it but if it has to happen, it has to happen but it is unfortunate for us. And especially the smaller businesses,” Abraham Espana, a cashier at Southwest Supply, said.

The $7-million dollar project is expected to last 10 months.
