Chihuahuas sweep doubleheader against Salt Lake
The El Paso Chihuahuas shut out the Salt Lake Bees 3-0 in Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader at Smith’s Ballpark. It was El Paso’s third shutout of the season.
El Paso’s first run came in the second inning on a single by Dusty Coleman and a Salt Lake error. Two innings later, Diego Goris struck an RBI single to put El Paso ahead by two. Chihuahuas’ first baseman Jamie Romak hit his league-leading 11th home run of the season in the third, a solo shot to put El Paso ahead 3-0.
The Chihuahuas defeated the Bees 12-3 in Game 2 of the doubleheader. It was the largest margin of victory for El Paso this season. The Chihuahuas brought in six runs during their 12-batter seventh inning, which tied a season high for team runs in an inning.
Sunday was the Chihuahuas’ first doubleheader sweep since September 5, 2015 at Reno. El Paso has won four of five games and has a .500 record for the first time since April 19.
