Parkland football coach leaving to take new head coaching job

Parkland head football coach Josh Kirkland will not be returning to the Matadors for a second season.

Instead, Kirkland has confirmed he will be headed to Kyle Lehman H.S. in the Austin area, taking over a program that has never been to the postseason.

In his lone season with Parkland, Kirkland led the Matadors to an 8-4 record and a win in the first round of the playoffs over Bowie.

Kirkland released a lengthy farewell message via Twitter that read in part:

“This was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made, strictly because the people here are so wonderful…I will always love y’all.”

Parkland defensive coordinator Eric Frontz has been named the interim head coach in Kirkland’s absence.
