Community Champions: Eastlake softball continues playoff run

The Eastlake Falcons were dominant in their first round series win against Burges, and then followed that up with a gutsy extra inning contest against Randall in the area round to secure a spot in the 5A regional quarterfinals.

Their next opponent just so happens to be another talented team from El Paso. The Chapin Huskies will meet Eastlake on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex at UTEP for game one of a best-of-three series.

Game two will follow at UTEP on Friday at 5 p.m. with a possible third game 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.

Chapin has thus far defeated Hanks and Lubbock Cooper to earn its spot in the regional quarters.

Both Eastlake and Chapin finished the regular season with a perfect district record.

While the two teams have kept an eye on each other, they haven’t met this season.

All that will change this week when the two titans of El Paso softball square off for a spot in the Sweet 16.

And stay tuned to KVIA.com for our upcoming interview with the Chapin softball team later this week.
