Affidavit: Murder suspect waived Miranda Rights, confessed to killing wife
A complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7 states a man accused of murder allegedly confessed to killing his wife.
Rodrigo Rodriguez, 27, is charged with Murder for the killing of Ruby Rodriguez.
A complaint affidavit states officers met with a witness on the 11300 block of Lake Ozarks shortly after 3 am April 24, 2017.
The witness told police he/she received a phone call from Rodrigo, who allegedly confessed to killing his wife. Rodrigo Rodriguez later arrived at the witness’ residence to drop off his daughter.
The suspect allegedly asked the witness to care for his daughter while he visited his father’s house to say goodbye.
After dropping off his daughter, Rodrigo went to his father’s house, where he allegedly told his father he got into a fight with Ruby and killed her.
Police officers who spoke with the witness caring for Rodrigo’s daughter then conducted a welfare check at 321 Apodaca Place, where they found Ruby’s body.
Police said an investigation revealed Rodrigo stabbed and killed the woman. The witness who originally called police told investigators he/she noticed blood on Rodrigo’s face, the court document states.
Rodrigo fled the scene, but was later spotted by a Department of Public Safety Helicopter crew at around 7:30 am. The suspect was allegedly found in a canal/irrigation area near South Americas and Southside Road.
Police took him into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Once in custody, Rodrigo waived his rights and allegedly told police he killed his wife.
The suspect said he, the victim and their daughter lived at the residence at 321 Apodaca Place. Rodrigo referred to Ruby as his common-law wife, documents state.
