El Paso murder statistics since 1960

The El Paso Police Department Thursday released statistics on murders that have occured since January 1, 1960.

As of May 10, 2017, El Paso has recorded 12 murders. The city has averaged 23 murders per year during the past 57 years.

According to the statistics, that number has gone down since the new millennium. Since 2000, El Paso has averaged 16 per year.

During the past five years, El Paso has averaged 18 murders per year.

The highest total recorded was back in 1993 when the city had 56 murders. The lowest total recorded was in 1964 and 2010, with five murders each.

Despite the growing population throughout the decades, the average rate of murders has decreased, with the highest average seen during the 80s.
