BREAKING: Student who reported gunman at Austin High lied, EPISD police chief says

The student who reported an armed gunman entered Austin High School lied to police officers, EPISD Police Chief Victor Araiza said.

Police reviewed surveillance footage and learned an individual did enter the campus, but did not display a weapon, Araiza said.

When police approached the student, he later recanted and said he fabricated the story.

Araiza said the 16-year-old student will be charged for filing a false police report.

As a result of the lie, Austin High was placed on lockdown for more than two hours.

Police were not able to locate the individual seen entering the school in surveillance footage.
