Police identify Austin High student who allegedly lied about gunman

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has released the mug shot of the student who allegedly lied to police about an armed gunman entering Austin High School Thursday.

In an email sent to ABC-7, the sheriff’s office identified the student as Zenas Todd Jenkins.

EPISD Police Chief Victor Araiza said investigators reviewed surveillance footage and learned an individual did enter the campus, but did not display a weapon.

When police approached the student, he later recanted and said he fabricated the story.

Araiza said the student will be charged for filing a false police report.

As a result of the student’s lie, Austin High was placed on lockdown for more than two hours.

Police were not able to locate the individual seen entering the school in surveillance footage.
