Former Americas baseball star named to All-Big 12 First Team

Former Americas High School standout Orlando Garcia has been named to the All-Big 12 First Team after posting 11 home runs and 55 RBI so far in his junior season.

Garcia, now an infielder for Texas Tech, was one of four Red Raiders to be named to the league’s first team on Tuesday. Texas Tech and TCU tied for the league-lead in first team members with four each.

Garcia has guided Texas Tech to a 42-13 record so far and a number three ranking nationally.

He is hitting .305 this season and has had some monster games, including a 7 RBI performance against New Mexico State in February. Garcia has also added eight doubles and three triples this year.

Texas Tech will begin play in the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday against Oklahoma State after wrapping up the top seed in the regular season.

The Red Raiders enter the tournament having won eight of their last nine contests.
