Police canines track man accused of assaulting woman to trash dumpster

A police canine helped officers track a man accused of assaulting a woman and fleeing from police.

Erik Anthony Molix, 21, is charged with Assault/Impeding Breath and Possession of Marijuana, police said. Molix allegedly had several outstanding traffic warrants.

Shortly before 1 am Friday, police responded to a 911 hang up at an apartment unit on the 10200 block of Hedgerow.

The officers heard screaming while knocking on the front door, then heard someone run across the gravel at the rear of the apartment complex.

The woman who answered the door told officers she had been assaulted by Molix.

Police set up a perimeter and employed two drug-sniffing dogs to track Molix, eventually found hiding in a trash dumpster.

Molix was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under bonds totaling $6,103.
