EPPD: Gang-related violence in El Paso rises first 5 months of 2017
There has been a “significant increase” in the number of gang related cases the first five months of 2017 compared to the same time period in 2016, El Paso Police said Monday.
Police said that in between January 1, 2017 and May 31, 2017, 263 gang-related cases were reported in El Paso. During the same period in 2016, 149 cases were reported.

In February 2017, the El Paso Police Department reallocated resources – 10 officers and 1 Sergeant – from the Regional Commands to the Gang Unit to assist with the increase in gang-related cases.
