American boy found in Juarez identified, allegedly abandoned by his own mother

The police department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit Identified the child found in Juarez as a four-year old United States citizen.

The investigation revealed the boy’s biological mother, 25-year-old Ruby Esmeralda Gonzalez, took the child to Juarez on February 22, 2017 and left him in an abandon building, police say.

Gonzalez returned to the United States without the victim on that same date, police said.

Police said Gonzalez saw news reports on Saturday, June 3, 2017 after police asked for help identifying the boy.

Gonzalez allegedly called police to report her son had been kidnapped.

Police charged Gonzalez with “Abandoning and Endangering Child/Imminent Danger Bodily Injury.”

Gonzalez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a bond of $10,000.
