Street closures near UTEP, Don Haskins Center

Closures are in place around UTEP to accomodate crews who are finishing rail work for the El Paso Streetcar project.

Glory Road from Mesa Street to Oregon Street will be closed; Baltimore from Mesa to Stanton Street will also close.

Two lanes will remain open on Mesa St. northbound/southbound.

The turning lanes from to get to Glory Rd./Baltimore will also be closed.

Early Monday morning, crews could be seen placing barricades and orange cones to block traffic.

Paso del Norte Trackworks will begin its final wave of rail work in the coming weeks. The closure is expected to last until July 5.

Then crews will begin on the next two phases of rail work in the area, eventually reducing Mesa St. to one lane in each direction in July.

Meantime in downtown El Paso, Oregon Street will close to thru traffic between Franklin Avenue and Wyoming Avenue to accommodate track work.

Cross streets will remain open but will be subject to lane restrictions. The work is scheduled to take about eight to ten weeks to complete.

This is all part of the nearly five-mile route of the El Paso Streetcar.

When the rail work is complete, Paso del Norte Trackworks will make sidewalk repairs, pole placement for the overhead cantenary system which will power the streetcars.
