Police K9 found alleged burglar hiding in restaurant’s crawl space

A police canine helped officers find an alleged burglar hiding in a crawl space.

Police responded to a burglary in progress call at the El Robles Restaurant just before 4 am Saturday.

Officers arrived at the restaurant and discovered pry marks on the doors. The officers then observed 29-year-old Jose Hernandez inside the business.

Hernandez allegedly fled to the back of the restaurant, outside of the officer’s view, and refused to exit the building.

K-9 Alasdair and his handler arrived to the scene to assist as officers began searching the business for Hernandez. Police say the dog located Hernandez hiding in a crawl space between the roof and interior ceiling.

Police say Hernandez eventually used the crawl space to get to the outside of the building, where he fell from the roof to the ground. Hernandez fled from the officers but was caught after a brief foot pursuit.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $6,000 bond. Hernandez is charged with the offense of Burglary of Building and Evading Arrest or Detention.
