Las Cruces police officer takes leave of absence to pursue country music dream

For ten years, A Las Cruces police officer chased down on crime. Now, he’s pulling the trigger on his dream of singing country music!

Officer Frank Ray, the lead singer of the banf Border Avenue, hopes to become a professional country musician.

Ray told ABC-7 he’s loved serving and protecting the city of Las Cruces, but had to take a shot at what he loved.

“This has been my lifelong passion. Anybody who knows me, especially at work, knew that it was probably a matter of time before I dove in one hundred percent into the music industry,” Ray said.

The department’s leader told ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom they fully support Ray and wish him nothing but the best as he travels to meet new fans from coast-to-coast.

“I told him when I approved his leave of absence, that all the employees of the Las Cruces Police Department should have free passes when he hits it big, so I’m going to hold him to that,” Las Cruces Police Chief Jaime Montoya said.
