Ysleta ISD unveils motor coach featuring student athletes
The Ysleta Independent School District has two new school buses — and they’re not the yellow kind.
These are full-size motor coaches wrapped with images of student athletes and showcasing the district’s slogan, “The District: The Only Choice.”
Featured among them is Del Valle High School soccer star Love Tovar who retweeted a photo of the bus with the quote, “Words cannot describe how grateful I am. Thank you @YsletaISD for the honor – I am truly blessed.”
Tovar, a junior, will be suiting up for the Conquistadores football team this fall as a kicker in addition to maintaining her role in the soccer program.
Football players featured include Eastwood High School’s Freddy Contreras and Parkland’s Deion Hankins.
There is also a volleyball player from Ysleta and a basketball player from Hanks.
The bus was parked outside the Don Haskins Center Tuesday morning as thousands of teachers and staff filed into the auditorium to hear Superintendent Dr. Xavier De La Torre’s convocation message.
“Whether they work in the cafeteria, grounds, maintenance, transportation, teachers, administrators – to come together and understand what our goals and our priorities are for the coming school year,” said De La Torre.
District Spokesman Chris Lechuga said the buses are part of the district’s student recruitment and retention strategy. They will be used for out-of-town travel and for district functions.
“We want to get the Ysleta Pride going,” he said.
Lechuga said he did not know the cost of the buses off the top of his head.
YISD goes back to the classroom on Monday, August 28.
